| Chempolis builds energy efficient pulping plant in China |

Finland-based Chempolis and the Henan Yinge Industrial Investment Company are forming a joint venture to produce non-wood-based papermaking fibres and biochemicals in China's Henan province. They are investing a total of EUR30m (USD41m) to build a plant in Luohe, which will produce 160,000 tons of products per year from wheat straw. Chinese paper maker Henan Yinge is contributing EUR22.5m (USD30.8m) to the venture, with Chempolis providing the remainder.
The Luohe plant will use Chempolis' formicofib technology, which uses a formic acid-based biosolvent to produce chemical pulp for paper and board, packaging and hygienic products. The firm claims the US Department of Energy has judged the process to be the most energy efficient type of pulping technology. |
